Wednesday practice

We had a great practice today. 6 and unders worked hard on maintaining a streamline position off the dive. While our 8 and ups worked hard on flip turns. Everyone made drastic improvements on their flip turns and streamline positions by the time we got out of the water.

Practice schedule for next week
No practice due to Holidays on Monday July 3rd
No practice due to Holidays Tuesday July 4th
Practice resumes for everyone Wednesday July 5th
Since we will be on Holiday and miss practice here is a great video for you to see a beautiful breaststroke from one of the worlds greatest swimmers.
Notice how "streamline" Amanda gets in the water.
I have taken down the video because of the size. If anyone has not had the chance to see it, just let email me and I can repost the file.

Results

The results are in and the Sharks have tons o ribbons to show off.

The Sharks took home
18 1st Place ribbons
19 2nd place ribbons
7 3rd place ribbons
8 4th place ribbons
As well as several ribbons for 5-9th places!

Our most improved swimmers of the week go to:
Sam took 25 seconds off his 25 yd backstroke
James took 13 seconds off his 25 yd freestyle
Tyler took 10 seconds off her 50 yd backstroke and 11 seconds of 50 yd breaststroke

Other swimmers who swam personal best time (with time shaved ranging from 1 second to Sam's 25 seconds). Jack, Thomas, Anna Lee, Jackson D., Anna, Jackson S., Ross, Justin, and Meg.

Our first Tuesday practice with 9 and overs went great -at least for the coach. Swimmers worked HARD today and were pushed all the way to the end. We worked on freestyle catch drills - with over 6 sets of 50's in different hand position drills. We also worked on breast stroke pulls - with an underwater challenge of distance and length off the wall

Everyone had a great day. We look forward to having our 8 and unders back tommorow, where our older swimmers will explain the "push-up" rule in great detail.

Practice schedule : 8 and Under - Monday, Wednesday, Thursday
Practice schedule: 9 and up Monday through Thursday
4:20 -5:25

HOT SUN COOL WATER

The only thing to do now is take a nap and wait for the results from our 3rd Swim meet.

As the hosts of the meet today we had to pull the extra duty of providing timers, clerk of course, runners, starter, stroke judge, bull pen cordinator, and concessions. WHEW! A HUGE thanks to all the parents who jumped in to help out today. Everything ran smoothly from the first heat all the way through until the last gatorade had been sold. THANK YOU THANK YOU.

With (literally) half our team on vacation we still had an excellent day.

Our 6 and Under relay started off the day by winning the 100yd Freestyle relay (Thomas, Jackson, Meg, Ross)
The Sharks also ended the day with a relay win in the OPEN division 200 yd medley relay (Branton, Kirby, 'Cedes, Chad).

As the sun got hotter so did the swimmers. Davis, swimming in his first meet of the year had a very solid day. While James won fans all over the pool for being the "fastest four yr. old" in the water! Jackson D. had another great day in only his second meet of the year.

Chelsea, Ashley, Tyler, and Anna cranked out an impressive medley relay. Anna Lee continues to shave seconds off her best time, and looks better every time in the water.

Several swimmers ventured into new territory swimming longer events today (Sam, Jack, Jackson, and Anna) and many were surprised at the results.

We will begin to push distances as the season moves forward and others will begin to swim new events. Thanks again to all who helped out today - we couldn't have done it with out all the help! See everyone at the pool Monday at 4:20. The Sharks will work on turns, finishing strong, and we will hand out ribbons from the meet.

Meet 2

Our second swim meet was another succes!

We cruised up to Camp Grandview and let the sharks loose in the pool. Congratulations on the first meet of their young swimming careers to Sadie, Angelica, and Anita! Way to go girls you did great.

Everyone is continuing to improve and many swimmers saw drastic improvements of times. Sam, Anna Lee, Anna, Zak, Rachel, Thomas, Jackson, Meg, Ashley, Tyler, and Chelsea all improved times from the first week.

Jackson and Nathan are tearing up the 7-8 yr. old division as they battle for 1st and 2nd in almost every event, but watch out because Sam the man is coming on strong in practice.

Our outstanding 6 and under relay is still UNDEFEATED, and our 11 and ups are closing the gap each week on the competition.

Alan swam at the Prattville Sprint Championships and placed 8th overall in total points for 13-14 boys - this division had more than 20 swimmers, way to go Alan!!

We had a good week of practice, although Coach Amery and I noticed by the end of the week that many of the swimmers were looking a little tired and weary. So we are considering a new schedule in order to best serve the needs of all our swimmers. We are loaded with 8 and unders this year and we may need to back off some practice dates for this age group. A possible solution is to have 8 and unders practice Monday Wenesday, Thursday, and the older age groups continue practice Monday, Tuesday, Wenesday, Thursday.

This will allow several things to happen.
1) The younger swimmers will get more rest.
2) We will be able to target drills and practices to each age groups abitlites and skills.

I will make sure that everyone has recieved appropriate communication before this change takes place. As of right now all swimmers should come to practice Monday June 26 at 4:20.
